OUR MISSION
Our mission is to provide professional dance instruction for the advancement of classical ballet.
New York Dance Theatre Inc. is dedicated to supporting Ohman School of Ballet by raising the funds to ensure the continuation of our high-quality, compassionate ballet and dance education programs. We aim to instill public appreciation for the art form through lectures, training, and performances.
What is the difference between the Ohman School of Ballet and New York Dance Theatre?
Ohman School of Ballet is a training ground for young dancers. Offering a full curriculum from pre-ballet and ballet for tots to division 5 and pre professional studies, the school is focused on quality ballet training in the Balanchine tradition. The syllabus and curriculum for each level is based on the core requirements in strength and discipline for that level, NOT for age. No student shall move up in division without the key components of the syllabi achieved. OSB students are chosen and placed within NYDT productions throughout the year.
New York Dance Theatre is a professional company consisting of all components required to produce quality staged performances. NYDT consists of producers, directors, designers, performers (both professional and student), musicians, visual artists, and technical/production crew. Oftentimes NYDT will reach out to OSB alumni and student families for assistance and volunteer positions that need filling. NYDT productions range from free, local outreach performances and lecture demonstrations, to large scale productions such as our annual Nutcracker in December. Professional performers in NYDT are contracted per engagement. Both professionals and students must audition for roles on the selected audition date(s) unless permitted by the director(s) via virtual platform or audition reel.
